"Africa is, indeed, coming into fashion." - Horace Walpole (1774)

this & that

  • Oh, my word. I'm speechless, and yet not surprised at all. Yeah, this will really help with the Muslim world's perception that the Iraq war is another iteration of the Crusades.
  • It appears that most of the 4 million Texans who voted in the Democratic primary are new Democratic primary voters - and that almost 10% will vote for McCain in the general. The worse news for the D's is the lack of downballot voting.
  • Heh-heh. Wish I'd seen this last week.

Some people confuse marketing the "gospel" with being witnesses. That's one result of the americanization of christianity. It's much easier to have a gimmic for "sharing one's faith" than to internalize Jesus' message and live as a disciple.

We'll probably hear sermons protesting the military's actions and calling for more "evangelization" while the "time is ripe."

God help us!

Well, that's still 90% of 4 million Texans who WON'T vote for McCain. While I don't expect Texas to go for Obama this summer (although massive African-American and Latino turnout, plus enough white liberals COULD do it, barely), I think enough downticket voting by energized Dem. voters could really help Texas Dems. I have high hopes for Rick Noriega defeating John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate. After all, Cornyn, like McCain, voted against the new G.I. Bill and against S-CHIP. Even in Texas, W's approval has fallen to 45% and Cornyn keeps tying himself to Bush. So. . .
