"Africa is, indeed, coming into fashion." - Horace Walpole (1774)

at least it's another country

Well, that was not fun at all. Eight hours, 4.5 spent in line, and I'm finally rerouted for tomorrow. AA made a terrible decision to cancel all flights at 5pm, which was just a tiny bit frustrating for those of us who could see the other airlines' flights taking off for hours afterwards. After a long, miserable day, I'm safely sleeping in a real bed at my cousin's house and will be arriving in Pristina via Istanbul on Saturday. Woo-hoo!

Something similar happened to me when I was trying to leave Paris last spring. United cancelled all flights to the US east coast "indefinitely", when just a few hours later the other airlines were up and running. THEN they proceeded to close their office at 2pm, so that no one stranded in Paris could even talk to them about rebooking flights.

I hope the rest of your trip goes more smoothly!

One word jumps out at me. "Safely"
Making the decision to cancel flights is costly for airlines and the passengers affected, but less so than taking off with ice instantly forming on the wings of the aircraft. Safety first. Better safe than sorry.
We all want what we want and now.
Of course the other airlines who continued taking off made it, this time. Do you believe in luck or good judgement?
Hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable (and safe).
