Several of my former students have organized this benefit to help with C & E's children's center construction project in Goma. The center will be a home for orphaned and abandoned kids like Olivier who have no place else to go, and will provide them with an education and job skills training so they have a chance in life.

I am super-excited about this event (and not just because I'll be doing a brief presentation at the intermission). It is really rewarding for me as a teacher that these students care so much about helping people they'll never meet. If you can, please come out to support their efforts on Friday night!

Details: opener The BackStory will play a set before the Texas country/blues sounds of Rooftop Cigar. Rooftop Cigar will also be offering their brand new album for sale, and a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the cause. Austin City Church has been kind enough to open their doors for the benefit; they're on South Lamar just north of Mary Street. Doors open at 7 and more details are available on the event Facebook page.
