the ivory tower
There is a big scandal in academics this week. Seems several well-placed university administrators (and a Department of Education official) had serious conflicts of interest in that they were all stockholders in a student loans corporation who sold shares of the stock at the same time. Did I mention that they're the people responsible for advising students on loans? And that the loan corporation was put on their universities' lists of preferred lenders?
At UT, the director of financial aid has been placed on administrative leave. The same thing happened at Columbia and USC. What a mess.
