"Africa is, indeed, coming into fashion." - Horace Walpole (1774)

Ethics Daily has this lovely item about Jerry Falwell. Apparently, concern about the environment is a distraction from evangelism. Since I believe that Falwell is as much about politics as he is about evangelism, this isn't really a surprise. I'd be interested to know about the logic behind how he equates a concern about global warming with worshipping creation, but whatever. His hysteria doesn't really bother me. The thing about Reverend Falwell's approach is that he has to continually create new enemies. And that seems to me to have very little to do with the message of Jesus Christ.

It constantly amazes me how many evangelicals continue to insist that there couldn't possibly be a connection between changes in our environment and the fact that it's only in the last 150 years or so that we've been burning massive quantities of coal and oil and other things that tend to not be good for our air and water quality. It doesn't take a PhD to figure these things out. And God doesn't ask us to check our brains at the door.
